It was a packed day of driving across the wide Vojvodina plains, chatting with memory scholar Todor Kuljic and tracking down a wide variety of monuments from WW2 to the wars of the 1990s. The double dose of morning coffee helped us recover after a typical night of "fieldwork" in Belgrade and we found enormous monumental works commemorating the Partisan struggle and small, practically hidden local memorials in dusty villages. The imposing Vukovar water tower represented our final site of memory for the day before collapsing in Nova Gradiska.
